Texas College Celebrates the Remarkable Legacy of Dr. Dwight J. Fennell as He Concludes His Presidency
TYLER, Texas (June 29, 2026) — With profound gratitude and heartfelt appreciation, the Texas College family celebrates the extraordinary leadership and lasting legacy of Dr. Dwight J. Fennell, the institution's 23rd President, as he officially retires on June 30, 2026.
After years of faithful service and visionary leadership, Dr. Fennell leaves behind a stronger, more vibrant Texas College—one that has experienced unprecedented growth, renewed momentum, and a steadfast commitment to its historic mission of preparing servant leaders for lives of purpose.
Throughout his presidency, Dr. Fennell guided Texas College through significant milestones that have transformed the institution and positioned it for continued success. Under his leadership, the College achieved a successful reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), strengthened its financial foundation, and successfully completed major campus improvements, including the construction of a new residence hall that was fully paid for during his tenure.
His administration also witnessed the highest student enrollment since the COVID-19 pandemic, with residence halls reaching capacity and renewed excitement across campus. Academic programs expanded, student opportunities increased, and the College continued to build on its reputation for excellence.
Dr. Fennell consistently reminded students that education is more than earning a degree—it is about developing character, embracing leadership, and serving others. His unwavering commitment to faith, scholarship, and service has left an indelible mark on thousands of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and supporters.
As Texas College prepares for a new chapter under incoming leadership, the institution does so upon the solid foundation established during Dr. Fennell's presidency.
