On October 12, Dr. Jan Duncan, Vice President for Academic Affairs, traveled to New York City to present at a workshop titled “Fix Your Crown, Sis.” The workshop was presented by Cassandra Mack Ministries and served as an event for women of all ages to come together in faith, fellowship, fun, and sisterhood to be uplifted, poured into, motivated, and inspired. While open to all, the workshop catered to a population of underserved and disadvantaged women, many of whom were victims of sex trafficking.
The day-long event immersed attendees in an atmosphere of support, encouragement, and positivity as strategies for empowered living were presented by a multitude of powerful and influential women. Among the list of dynamic presenters was Texas College’s Dr. Jan Duncan.
Her presentation, titled “Furthering Your Education: A Precious Stone in Your Crown,” served as a powerful and enlightening segment for the audience. Throughout her speech, Dr. Duncan emphasized the importance of education, specifically higher education. She encouraged the women, most of whom did not have a college degree, to pursue an education to empower themselves and enhance their lives. As the title alluded, Dr. Duncan illustrated how an education is an undoubtedly a precious and necessary gem for one’s crown to provide a life of financial stability, meaningful fulfillment, and a sense of self-worth.
