The Vice President for Academic Affairs is a direct report to the President. The Vice President is responsible for the general oversight and delivery of the academic components of the College, as well as responsible for working with cognate areas as noted in the responsibilities below. The Vice President will make certain that the delivery of all components related to academic affairs meet the Principles of Accreditation (as required by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools- SACS). In the delivery of services and support, the Vice President will collaborate with (but not limited to): the Office of Enrollment Management; Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Office of Student Affairs, Office of Institutional Advancement and Office of the President. The minimal expectations of the Vice President for Academic Affairs include being:
1) Responsible for review and submission of classes to be offered each academic semester/term.
2) Responsible for the recommendation (to the President) of full-time assignments of faculty.
And, making certain that all full-time faculty retain full-loads in keeping with the College’s policy. When necessary, the Vice President will recommend an adjustment of the faculty’s Agreement when the load is less than full-time.
3) Responsible for making certain (with the assistance of divisional leaders) that faculty post and retain office hours.
4) Responsible (with the assistance of divisional leaders/faculty) in making certain that all academic programs and classes have explicit learning outcomes with measurable objectives.
5) Responsible for the delivery and assessments of the “College's Planning Model,” with the reporting of results to the President annually in a narrative report.
6) Responsible for working with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness in the delivery of the accreditation principles and the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP).
7) Responsible for making certain that the evaluation of faculty are conducted by divisional leaders and that the evaluation by students are also conducted (each semester).
8) Responsible for making certain that all faculty are involved in the advisement process.
9) Responsible for making certain that the teaching-learning process is followed in keeping with the mission and core values of the College.
10) Responsible for engaging faculty in the writing of grants.
11) Responsible for working with divisional leaders and faculty with the engagement of students in community service projects and internships (associated with his/her major).
12) Responsible for the delivery of an Honors Program and the development of honors courses and programmatic activities that are uplifting, challengeable and relevant to students’ academic growth.
13) Responsible for the planning and coordination of Academic Convocations and Commencement related activities. The committee participants for such events will be provided by the President.
14) Responsible for the delivery of the “Early Alert,” system and prescriptive guidance of affected students that will lead to his/her continued retention.
15) Responsible for the offering of faculty’s professional development each semester, that will lead to improved teaching-learning. Such development may include (but not limited to); Jenzabar sessions, on-line course development; introduction of best practices/value-added teaching strategies.
16) Responsible for the development of (at least one activity per semester) that engages the academic area with community. This may be in the form of a lyceum; lunch-time forum; speakers bureau etc.
17) Responsible for working with the Planning Council of the College.
18) Responsible for enhancing Library services and the creation of Library related programs that lead to students’ and faculty growth.
19) Responsible for assuming other responsibilities as directed by the President, for the good of the institution.
