Texas College is pleased to cordially invite students, faculty, staff, alumni, Friends of the College, and community members to celebrate the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic year at Fall 2024 Opening School Convocation! Fall 2024 Opening School Convocation is scheduled for Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. (CT), in the Gus F. Taylor Gymnasium. Opening School Convocation's speaker will be Rev. Dr. W. Raymond Bryant, Sr., Presiding Elder of the San Antonio District of the Southwest Texas Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in the Tenth Episcopal District. Fall 2024 Opening School Convocation will also be live streamed for those unable to physically attend. To access the live stream, quick details,  as well as Rev. In November 2017, Rev. Dr. Bryant was appointed the Presiding Elder of the San Antonio District of the Southwest Texas Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in the Tenth Episcopal District.

Rev. Dr. Bryant is an anointed man of God. He encourages those with whom he comes in contact to develop a daily spiritual “Walk with God.” He actively promotes prayer, education, and community service. Rev. Dr. Bryant has facilitated many sessions and seminars on the benefits of collaboration and healthy eating. His efforts encouraged the people of God to truly operate on one accord as the Body of Christ and to be mentally, physically and spiritually healthy.

Dr. Bryant is a strong advocate for health and wellness. He is developing organic gardens to feed people because he believes food is medicine. He is currently leading the San Antonio Million Garden Project and building gardens at homes, as well as in community spaces in an effort to improve community health and overcome food apartheid.

Dr. Bryant teaches gardening throughout the San Antonio community and the State of Texas, provides classes on planting and harvesting fruit and vegetables, sets up and prepares cooking demonstrations at gardens, churches and community centers, and prepares instructional documents about nutritional values of various foods. He is also the individual in charge of education for the AME Gardening Project, a worldwide project that is part of the AME International Health Ministry.

Dr. Bryant received his Doctorate from Houston Graduate School of Theology in 1998 and a Master of Divinity from the same institution in 1995. Rev. Dr. W. Raymond Bryant, Sr. is married to Rev. Linda Carmen Bryant. She is a retired Colonel from the United States Army with 30 years of active duty service and served in the Army Medical Field. Rev. Linda Carmen Bryant is currently the Pastor of Grant Community AME Church in San Antonio. Dr. and Rev. Bryant travel and work together building God’s people, building community gardens and building God’s Kingdom.
