Under the leadership of Head Coach Jarrail Jackson, the Steers tied for third in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) with a 5-3 conference record, solidifying their spot among the league's elite.
For his outstanding efforts, Jackson was honored as the 2024 SAC Coach of the Year, a testament to the program’s remarkable turnaround and his ability to cultivate a winning culture in Tyler.
Dominance on Both Sides of the Ball
Texas College's success was built on balanced performances across offense and defense, with several players earning postseason accolades. On offense, Wide Receiver Terrell Hookfin, Jr. shined, earning First Team All-SAC honors after consistently making big plays throughout the season.
Defensively, the Steers were anchored by Safety Terrill Franklin, another First Team All-SAC selection. Franklin's ability to disrupt opposing offenses played a pivotal role in Texas College’s dominance, particularly at home, where the Steers’ defense thrived in front of raucous crowds.
Building Depth and Recognition
The Steers’ talent extended beyond their most notable players, with several athletes earning Honorable Mention All-SAC nods. On offense, Center Tony Salazar and Offensive Guard Jayden Coker were instrumental in sustaining drives and protecting the quarterback while the offense put points on the board. On defense, Zion Long and Malachi Burrell showcased grit and determination, helping to secure key victories that propelled Texas College to new heights.
Home-Field Advantage
The Steers’ undefeated 6-0 home record was a cornerstone of their success, turning their stadium into a fortress. Texas College fans packed the stands each game, creating an atmosphere that fueled the team to deliver outstanding performances. The program looks forward to even more support from their fanbase next year.
A Bright Future
Coach Jackson’s recognition as SAC Coach of the Year is more than a personal accolade—it’s a reflection of a program on the rise. Texas College’s resurgence has re-energized the community, and with a solid foundation of returning talent, the Steers look poised to continue their ascent in the years to come.
