TEXAS COLLEGE ANNOUNCES: Texas College Takes Top Honors in HBCU Blood Donation Battle
Texas College proudly announces its victory in the first-ever HBCU Blood Donation Battle held in East Texas, hosted by Carter BloodCare. Competing against fellow historic institution Wiley University in Marshall, Texas College secured the most units donated, earning both the bragging-rights trophy and a $2,500 grant in support of blood-donor scholarship efforts.
The competition, organized by Carter BloodCare, challenged each campus to collect at least 22 blood units during their respective homecoming events—Oct. 24 for Wiley University and Oct. 29 for Texas College. Each unit donated supports up to three patients in East Texas.
“We are thrilled with the incredible response and proud of our students, alumni, faculty, and community partners who made this win possible,” said Andrew Bates, Public Relations Director, of Texas College. “It’s more than a competition—it’s a life-saving effort. By coming together in the spirit of homecoming, we demonstrated what it means to lead through service, which is a part of our core values and mission of the college.”
With this win, Texas College not only goes home with the trophy, but also amplifies its impact on the community. The minimum goal of 22 units would help provide blood products to at least 66 patients; surpassing that goal significantly expands that lifesaving reach.
“The blood supply never takes a break, and this drive came at a critical time when donations typically dip ahead of the holiday season,” noted Joi Johnson, Community and Donor Engagement Specialist at Carter BloodCare. “Texas College stepped up in a big way—and this win is a win for East Texas patients.”
