Texas College Welcomes Bishop Denise Anders-Modest as Board Chair

Historic Leadership Marks a New Chapter for the Institution

Texas College proudly welcomes Bishop Denise Anders-Modest as the new Chair of the Texas College Board of Trustees, ushering in an exciting new chapter of leadership for the College.

Bishop Anders-Modest's appointment represents a historic milestone as she becomes the first woman to serve as Chair of the Texas College Board of Trustees. Her election reflects a continued commitment to visionary leadership, faithful stewardship, and advancing the mission of Texas College.

Her appointment is especially meaningful as it coincides with another historic first for the institution. Under the leadership of Dr. SherRhonda R. Gibbs, who recently became the 24th President of Texas College and the first woman to lead the College, Texas College now celebrates two pioneering women serving in its highest leadership roles.

"This is a remarkable moment in the history of Texas College," said President Dr. SherRhonda R. Gibbs. "I am honored to welcome Bishop Denise Anders-Modest as Board Chair and look forward to working alongside her as we continue building upon our rich legacy while preparing students for a future of leadership, service, and excellence."

Bishop Anders-Modest also serves as the Presiding Bishop of the 8th Episcopal District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church, the denomination whose ministers founded Texas College in 1894. Her election further strengthens the historic relationship between the College and the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church while reinforcing the institution's enduring commitment to faith-based higher education.

A proud graduate of Grambling State University, Bishop Anders-Modest brings decades of distinguished ministry, leadership, and service to the role. Her experience and dedication will help guide the College as it continues to expand academic excellence, student success, and institutional growth.

As Texas College enters this exciting new era, the College looks forward to the leadership and vision Bishop Anders-Modest will provide in partnership with President Gibbs, the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and supporters.

Texas College invites the entire Steer Nation family to join in extending a warm welcome to Bishop Denise Anders-Modest as she begins her service as Chair of the Texas College Board of Trustees.

Congratulations, Bishop Anders-Modest, and welcome to Texas College!
