Texas College Steer Football emerged victorious to kick off the 2024 football season. On Saturday, August 31, 2024, the Steers traveled to Fayette, Missouri, to face off against the Central Methodist University Eagles at Davis Field. The Steers scored quickly in the first quarter and would march forward to score in each quarter. Texas College held a commanding 26-0 lead before Central Methodist scored two late touchdowns in the fourth. The Steers would ultimately win 26-15.
Kendrick Connel threw four touchdown passes to four different receivers, hitting on 15 of 32 passing attempts for 248 yards. Touchdown receptions were by Jalen Jackson for 35 yards, Tyre Lindsey for 57 yards, Cualan Williams for 16 yards, and Malachi Livings for 69 yards. Following the second touchdown, Connel connected with Williams for the two-point conversion as Texas College took a 14-0 halftime lead.
Top rushers for the Steers were Jared Runnels with nine carries for 44 yards, Zerrick Jones with five carries for 28 yards, and Ethan Davis with six carries for 24 yards.
Williams led Texas College with seven receptions for 38 yards and a touchdown. Other catches were by Livings with two catches for 95 yards and a touchdown, Lindsey with two receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown, Jackson with one catch for 35 yards resulting in a touchdown, Jones with one reception for seven yards, and Davis with one reception for five yards.
Kendrick Lee led the Steers defensively with eight tackles and an interception. Texas College congruently wreaked havoc in the backfield as Stephen Ajibola amassed 2.5 sacks, with another two sacks from Dylan Dubois, a sack each for Jordan Williams and Cam Hoyte, as well as Kyrin Flentroy credited with half a sack.
